What is "Clothes For A Cause"? "Clothes For A Cause" is a line sold by the Art Commune, where each collection co-ordinates with a themed charity which it donates 10% of its profits to. Each collection will be a culmination of artwork, totes, hand embroidered up-cycled vintage apparel, and jewelry made from bioplastic.
"Clothes For A Cause" is a line sold and produced by The Art Commune, founded and produced by artist and DU BFA student Syd Lee. The point of the "Clothes (And Stuff) For A Cause" line is to have themed collections where each collection donates 10% of its profits to a coinciding charity. Even though we're just a team of broke college art students, we wanted to use our business platform and artwork to help others and our community somehow. Our hope is that if we, as a small up and coming business, can use our platform for a good cause, perhaps we can inspire bigger business to take similar action.
We also strive to be as eco-friendly and sustainable as possible, again as a hope to inspire other businesses to be more considerate of their choices and how they can better the environment and community. Our clothing is up-cycled vintage in a fight against fast fashion and garment waste, and majority of our jewelry is made from biodegradable bioplastics made from algae, as a resin substitute because of resins inability to compost. Even screen-printing on recycled Bristol paper, as a subtle hope to make the small changes which can create big impact.
A big part of our brand is not limiting what kind of work our artists can create so our mediums can highly vary but the collection currently consists of a line of hand-embroidered and screen-printed up-cycled vintage apparel created by Syd Lee, as well as a line of jewelry. The collections will also include totes, screen-prints, candles, drawings, ceramics, etc. Each collection is different and usually the medium is chosen to enhance the subject matter.
Our first collection to debut is "The Save The Bees" project which donates 10% of its profits to The Bee Conservancy, a foundation dedicated to the conservation and protection of Bee habitats all around the globe.
Why, of all causes to pick, would we pick bees? Imagine a world where there was no flowers blossoming with the seasons or fruits to pick from the trees. That is the impact of bees! They're currently endangered, and if you like honey and flowers and trees and stuff you should care!
